In 1945, Berlin was captured in 17 days. Soviet troops completed the assault on the capital of the Third Reich on May 2, 1945, raising flag over the Reichstag. Soviet rifle divisions bore the brunt of the battles of the Eastern front of WWII, the best of divisions received the honorary title of Guards. Guards rifle companies were often the basis for the creation of assault squads, which took an active part in the assaults on German cities. Since 1943, the troops began to receive a 7.62 mm submachine gun designed by A.I. Sudaev, which was called PPS-43.
