The US infantry was well armed and trained by the time the US entered actively World War II. Being equipped with the most modern arms of the time, however it lacked experience in major warfare. The first active land operations in Europe started in November 1941 in North Africa with "Operation Torch" and ended with the defeat of the Germans 1945. In total over 16 million Americans served their country in WWII.
