The Mi-171 is a development of the Mi-8 helicopter. Its serial production began in the 1990s. The military version of the helicopter was designated the Mi-171Sh (Mi-8AMTSh).
The helicopter is designed to carry 16 troops or 4,000 kg of cargo. Various weapons can be mounted on an external sling to engage ground and surface targets. Modern navigation equipment allows the helicopter to operate in adverse weather conditions. An onboard defense system and armor provide protection for the crew and the helicopter.
